Presumed Larus hyperboreus x argentatus
3rd calendar year
11 January 2004
Byparken, Bergen, Hordaland, Norway

This presumed hybrid was only seen for five short minutes in the city park of Bergen today. Note especially the bright primaries and extensive patterns on wing coverts and tertials. The marbled pale brown tail (only parts of the tail visible) does also fit a hybrid well. In flight the paleness of the primaries was really obvious, making it very similar to a Glaucous Gull. Second winter hybrids are rarely reported in western Norway, and there is only one accepted Norwegian record.
