Larus sp.

The Trondheim Mystery Gull is still spending the winters in middle Norway. Some characters are still slightly puzzling: The primary coverts on both wings have extensive blacks pigments (weird for this age-class? At least for an argentatus Herring Gull). The eye is dark, but has brightened a bit since February 2004. P4 does show a distinct subterminal black spot on the outer web, and the orbital ring is red. Most adult Herring Gulls in Norway show some amount of head-markings in January, but a minority can also be completely lacking them - just like this bird (the markings were present in mid December).
