Second winter Larus canus canus April 4th. 2000 Byparken, Bergen, Hordaland, Norway
The dark grey-brown marks on most of the feathers in the carpal-area (primary- and median coverts, alula) shows this bird to be a second-winter. Also, the white spots on P10 and P9 are smaller than in adults. This is still a useful fieldmark to separate Common Gull from Ring-billed Gull of similar age, since RBG normally have only one small mirror on P10 at this age. |
