Some small gulls are uploaded today. A dorsal flightshot of an adult Sabine's Gull from Denmark in September can be seen here. Last autumn a leucistic Mew Gull spent a day in Bergen, western Norway, and two pictures are here. A flightshot of a normal juvenile Mew Gull, moulting to first winter, from September this year is here.

An adult winter Bonaparte's Gull was found at Skagen havn in Denmark two days ago.

With the renewed discussion concerning the large dark eyed gull reappearing in Trondheim (see below, 16 November), we have uploaded three pictures of a Swedish gull with several features similar to the Norwegian mystery bird. Maybe both of these originate from the same population? Anyway, have a look at the pictures here.

The previously debated Trondheim mystery gull from last winter returned at the same site today.
Several people from both sides of the Atlantic thought it could be a California Gull ssp.
albertaensis. Some features, such as the wing proportions (see flightshots from February)
exclude California Gull, but indicate that it may be a hybrid Caspian x Herring Gull). Have a look at four new pictures here.

An adult Lesser Black-backed Gull of the subspecies Larus fuscus graellsii from Tromsø (northern Norway) this spring is uploaded here.

The Mew Gulls in western Norway have started their primary moult now. We have uploaded two pictures of a flying adult bird here.

During the last three summers a Herring Gull and a Glaucous Gull has bred together outside Kristiansand, almost at the southern tip of Norway. This year three chicks hatched on June 18th. Five days later they were unfortunately found dead. See the pictures of the hybrid hatchlings and the adult Glaucous Gull here.

A week in the Baltics produced a.o. a first summer Caspian Gull near Ventes Ragas in southwestern Lithuania on May 30th. Four pictures of the bird can be seen here.

We have added some flightshots of moulting gulls from last September today. First a second calendar year Great Black-backed Gull here and an adult Herring Gull here. Furthermore, three different Black-legged Kittiwakes; a first-winter bird here and a first summer/second winter here, and an adult here.

Nine videograbs of a first-winter Yellow-legged Gull from southeastern Norway on March 25 are added today. There are no accepted records of the species in Norway, but several birds have been claimed during the last years. See it here.

A slightly bleached first winter nominate Iceland Gull from Rogaland county is new at the site today. See the picture here.

A Caspian Gull was discovered at Jaeren in Rogaland county two days ago. It is a third calendar year bird, an age-class never recorded in Norway before. Look at four pictures from yesterday here. We have also recieved six new pictures of the Bonaparte's Gull at Lista in Vest-Agder county in December 1995. See the pics here.

A presumed first winter hybrid Glaucous x Herring Gull from middle Norway is uploaded today. See two pictures of the perched bird here. The first winter Caspian Gull that was only seen briefly in Oestfold county in December 2003 was relocated some days ago, and four excellent new shots of this Norwegian rarity can be seen here.

The Trondheim mystery Gull
This dark-eyed large gull has triggered off many interesting thoughts on the birds identification and origin. The general American point of view is California Gull, while others believe it is a kind of Caspian Gull or a hybrid involving Caspian.

Last summer Norways fourth Franklin's Gull (and first for 23 years!) was staying near Oslo a couple of days in July. We've uploaded two pictures of this stunning adult bird here.

A dark second-winter (3cy) Herring Gull superficially similar to an American Herring Gull Larus smithsonianus was seen in the southeastern part of Norway on the 7th. Knowing the extreme plumage variation in Scandinavian Herring Gulls L. a. argentatus at this age, certain ID of this bird is probably not possible. Have a look at eight videograbs here.
